We at IMEM are very concerned about the environment, now and for the future, and see the effective establishment and development of an environmental management system which guarantees our minimal impact on the environment as a key question.
Environmental impact is a major issue worldwide. Minimising such an impact is widely supported: by national and local government, regulatory authorities, sector associations, customers, employees and shareholders.
That is why we proposed, in our 2007/2008 Strategic Plan, adapting our management system in line with the requirements set out in the UNE-EN ISO 14001:2004 environmental management standard, establishing for ourselves the clear aim of achieving the corresponding certification.
ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard which establishes how to implement an effective environmental management system. Its central aim of managing the delicate balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact is clearly achievable on the basis of the conscious commitment of the whole organisation.
ISO 14001 identifies which aspects of the business have an environmental impact and helps you to understand and comply with the relevant environmental legislation. The standard suggests that you set out clear improvement goals and an appropriate management programme so as to achieve them, with periodic reviews to ensure continuous improvement.
